{"id":14132,"date":"2021-02-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/27-02-2021\/nurturing-neighbourhoods-challenge-2\/"},"modified":"2021-02-27T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T00:00:00","slug":"nurturing-neighbourhoods-challenge-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/27-02-2021\/nurturing-neighbourhoods-challenge-2","title":{"rendered":"Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News- <\/strong>Recently<strong>, <\/strong>the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs shortlisted <strong>\u00a025 cities<\/strong> for the <strong>\u2018Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first stage of the Challenge involved an open call for applications from city agencies.<\/li>\n<li>The selected cities were <strong>Agartala, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Dharamshala, Erode, Hubballi-Dharwad, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Kakinada, Kochi, Kohima, Kota, Nagpur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Rohtak, Rourkela, Salem, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruppur, Ujjain, Vadodara, and Warangal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They will receive<strong> technical assistance and capacity-building<\/strong> to re-imagine <strong>parks and open spaces,<\/strong> <strong>improve access to early childhood facilities,<\/strong> <strong>adapt public<\/strong> s<strong>paces with early childhood-oriented amenities; and create accessible, safe, walkable streets for young children and families. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an<strong> initiative of the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD)<\/strong> in collaboration with the Bernard van Leer Foundation (BvLF) and technical partner WRI India.<\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>3-year initiative<\/strong> aimed at supporting early childhood-friendly neighborhoods under the government\u2019s <strong>Smart Cities Mission<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cfstatic.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/file_library\/mix_content\/179248846734167200_image.jpg\" style=\"height:197px; margin-left:100px; margin-right:100px; width:546px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Significance of Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It aims to <strong>address the need for early childhood amenities<\/strong> in government office premises, bus shelters and transit hubs.<\/li>\n<li>The Challenge has refocused attention on the<strong> importance of neighbourhood-level interventions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is well-aligned with the strategy of the <strong>Smart Cities Mission<\/strong> to promote inclusive, people-oriented development in compact, local areas towards scaling city-wide solutions that enhance our citizens\u2019 quality of life.<\/li>\n<li>It enables Indian cities to <strong>adopt an early childhood lens<\/strong> in designing neighbourhood-level improvements that promote the health and well-being of young children and their caregivers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:735px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"vertical-align:top; width:468.0pt\">\n<p><strong>Smart City Mission:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an innovative initiative of the Government of India to <strong>drive economic growth<\/strong> and <strong>improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and harnessing technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Mission will cover 100 cities and is being implemented by the <strong>Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/25-cities-selected-for-nurturing-neighbourhoods-challenge\/article33875679.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Source :TH<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News- Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs shortlisted \u00a025 cities for the \u2018Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge\u2019.
