{"id":14050,"date":"2021-02-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/23-02-2021\/one-nation-one-standard\/"},"modified":"2021-02-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T00:00:00","slug":"one-nation-one-standard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/23-02-2021\/one-nation-one-standard","title":{"rendered":"One Nation One Standard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News: <\/strong>The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has stressed the need for <strong>&#8216;One Nation One Standard&#8217; <\/strong>to bring<strong> uniformity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About One Nation One Standard\u2019 Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was first deliberated in September 2019.<\/li>\n<li>The mission was envisioned on the line of the \u2018<strong>One Nation, One Ration Card\u2019 <\/strong>scheme in order to <strong>ensure quality products in the country.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The purpose is to <strong>converge multiple standards<\/strong> with the BIS which is a recognised <strong>national body for standardisation in India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Relevance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It will make India the leader in <strong>setting global benchmarks in fixing standards.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>uniform national standards<\/strong> will help in making it mandatory for more products.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This will help <strong>in the easy implementation and monitoring of standards.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The<strong> strength and character <\/strong>of a nation are often <strong>exemplified by the standards it sets for the quality of its products and services.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Suggestions for implementation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lab testing in India <strong>should be of world standards<\/strong>,<strong> modern equipment<\/strong> and the <strong>latest technologies should be used<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>While all <strong>areas of production and services<\/strong> should be included in this national mission, bringing a<strong> national uniformity and standardization<\/strong> in all kinds of <strong>public procurement.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Gap analysis of <strong>BIS and Government labs<\/strong> be taken up on a <strong>priority basis as well.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gap analysis <\/strong>refers to the <strong>comparison of actual performance<\/strong> with <strong>potential or desired performance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The industry should be invited for <strong>more dialogue, participation and collaboration <\/strong>in this mission.<\/li>\n<li>The process of <strong>granting certification<\/strong> <strong>should be kept as simple as possible<\/strong> and <strong>duplication of work should be avoided<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The aim should be to become the <strong>world leader in having maximum industrial <\/strong>products under <strong>Indian Standards<\/strong> and <strong>no one should feel <\/strong>the need to go <strong>abroad to get the quality certification<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>BIS should explore <strong>International partnerships<\/strong> and <strong>associations <\/strong>to achieve synergy in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BIS is the <strong>National Standard Body of India <\/strong>established under the <strong>BIS Act 2016<\/strong> for the <strong>harmonious developmen<\/strong>t of the activities of <strong>standardization, marking and quality<\/strong> <strong>certification of goods<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>BIS has been providing <strong>traceable and tangible benefits <\/strong>to the<strong> national economy<\/strong> in a number of ways \u2013\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Providing safe reliable quality goods<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Minimizing health hazards to consumers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Promoting exports and imports substitute.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Control over the <strong>proliferation of varieties<\/strong> etc. through <strong>standardization, certification and testing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/piyush-goyal-calls-for-one-nation-one-standard-to-bring-uniformity-11613826624856.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Source :LM<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News: The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has stressed the need for &#8216;One Nation One Standard&#8217; to bring uniformity.
