{"id":13974,"date":"2021-02-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/08-02-2021\/the-foundation-stone-of-infrastructure-projects-in-west-bengal\/"},"modified":"2021-02-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T00:00:00","slug":"the-foundation-stone-of-infrastructure-projects-in-west-bengal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/08-02-2021\/the-foundation-stone-of-infrastructure-projects-in-west-bengal","title":{"rendered":"The Foundation Stone of infrastructure projects in West Bengal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News-<\/strong>Recently, the<strong> <\/strong>Prime Minister dedicated to the nation <strong>four infrastructure projects <\/strong>worth 4700 crore rupees at Haldia in West Bengal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The foundation stone of the second<strong> Catalytic-Isodewaxing Unit was laid down<\/strong> at the Haldia refinery of <strong>Indian Oil Corporation Limited.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Other three projects are <strong>Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited(BPCL\u2019s) LPG Import Terminal<\/strong>, <strong>GAIL\u2019s Dobhi-Durgapur Natural Gas Pipeline<\/strong> section and <strong>NHAI\u2019s four-lane road overbridge cum flyover on NH 41.at Ranichak<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Need:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Scarcity of gas<\/strong> was leading to the <strong>closure of industry<\/strong> in the region.Therefore, a decision was taken to <strong>connect eastern India<\/strong> with <strong>the eastern and western ports.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline <\/strong>is a part of that project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:742px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#ffe599; width:6.5in\">\n<p><strong>Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The gas pipeline project aims to <strong>provide piped cooking gas<\/strong> to residents of <strong>Varanasi <\/strong>and later to millions of people in states like <strong>Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>One nation-one gas grid <\/strong>is an <strong>important step<\/strong> for meeting the energy requirement.\n<ul>\n<li>For this, the focus is on reducing the cost of natural gas and expanding the gas-pipeline network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Overall Benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The four projects will<strong> improve both ease of living<\/strong> and <strong>ease of doing business <\/strong>in the region.\n<ul>\n<li>These projects will also help <strong>Haldia to grow<\/strong> into a<strong> major hub of export-import.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Construction<strong> work will provide employment<\/strong> to locals.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0This will also <strong>provide clean piped LPG<\/strong> to the<strong> kitchens<\/strong> and <strong>enable clean CNG<\/strong> <strong>vehicles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Sindri and Durgapur Fertilizer factories will get continuous gas supply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>More Steps in the same direction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1)Hydrogen Energy Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It <strong>is <\/strong>proposed to launch in<strong> 2021-22<\/strong> for <strong>generating hydrogen<\/strong> from<strong> green power sources.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Hydrogen can act as an energy storage option, which would be essential to meet intermittencies (of renewable energy) in the future.<\/li>\n<li>It ensures regional and national energy security, access and availability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is essential to <strong>decarbonise<\/strong> <strong>heavy industries <\/strong>like steel and cement.<\/li>\n<li>Green hydrogen energy is vital for India to meet its <strong>Nationally Determined Contributions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2)Ujjawala Scheme-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana<\/strong> is a scheme of the <strong>Ministry of Petroleum &#038; Natural Gas<\/strong> for providing<strong> LPG connections<\/strong> to women from <strong>Below Poverty Line<\/strong> <strong>(BPL)<\/strong> households.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>launched in 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a090 lakh free LPG connections were given to women in West Bengal which include more than 36 lakh women belonging to\u00a0 SC\/ST category.<\/li>\n<li>This year\u2019s Budget has proposed 1 crore more free gas connection under Ujjwala Scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1696005#:~:text=The%20PrimeMinister%2C%20Shri%20Narendra%20Modi,Pradhan%20Mantri%20Urja%20Ganga%20project.&#038;text=These%20projects%20will%20also%20help,major%20hub%20of%20export%2Dimport.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source :PIB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News-Recently, the Prime Minister dedicated to the nation four infrastructure projects worth 4700 crore rupees at Haldia in West Bengal.
