Donimalai Iron Ore Mine<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Commissioned in 1977, the mine is located in Bellary region of Karnataka.<\/li>\n
  • It produces 4 million tonnes of Run of Mine (\u201cROM\u201d means ore in its natural, unprocessed state) ore per year.<\/li>\n
  • The average grade of ore extracted has 65% Iron.<\/li>\n
  • Port of Export\n

    • Chennai outer harbour, TamilNadu: linked by 532km Rail<\/li>\n
    • Marmagao Port, Goa: linked by 370 km Rail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • It is being mined by the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC)<\/strong>.\n

      • Recently, for a short period, NMDC stopped its operation because the state government imposed an 80% premium on the iron ore sales<\/strong> from the mine.<\/li>\n
      • But now lease has been extended for the next 20 years for NMDC and NMDC is resuming its operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Few other major Iron Ore mines<\/strong> in Karnataka are Kudremukh, Bababudan, Kumaraswamy and Ramandurg<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

K9 Vajra Howitzer<\/h2>\n

  • The K-9 Vajra is an indigenized version<\/strong> of the basic K9 Thunder of South Korea.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • They are manufactured by Larsen & Toubro<\/strong> in partnership with the South Korean company.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 155mm\/52 calibre tracked, self-propelled Howitzer Guns<\/strong> have a range of 38 kilometres.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • The howitzers were delivered with more than 80% of indigenous work packages and above 50% indigenisation (by value).<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • The K9 Vajra programme-<\/strong>\n

    • It\u00a0 involved the delivery of 100 howitzers<\/strong> with associated engineering support packages covering spares, system documentation and training.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • \u00a0It also involves maintenance transfer of technology to an army base<\/strong> workshop to support the howitzers throughout their operational life cycle,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The next \u2018Made in India\u2019 howitzer that\u2019s likely to be inducted would be the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-developed the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) system.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

ECOpact- Green concrete<\/h2>\n

  • ACC Ready Mix Concrete( a subsidiary of cement major ACC) has launched ECOPact \u2013 a Green Concrete.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • It is a low carbon and high-performing<\/strong> concrete <\/strong>which has been launched in Mumbai and Hyderabad.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • It reduces CO2 emissions completely<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0It has 30-50 per cent lower embodied carbon content <\/strong>compared to a reference concrete designed with Ordinary Portland Cement. <\/strong><\/li>\n
  • It uses CO2 reduced binders<\/strong> and is manufactured with optimised mix designs to reduce its carbon footprint<\/strong> and superior durability and finish when compared to conventional concrete.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • It is suitable for all structural components <\/strong>such as foundations to roof including columns, beams, slabs, external, internal walls, driveways and walkways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
