{"id":13838,"date":"2021-02-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/13-02-2021\/national-rail-plan\/"},"modified":"2021-02-13T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T00:00:00","slug":"national-rail-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/13-02-2021\/national-rail-plan","title":{"rendered":"National Rail Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News-<\/strong>Indian Railways has come up with a<strong> National Rail Plan<\/strong> to address the <strong>inadequacies of capacity constraints<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Plan <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To plan <strong>infrastructural capacity<\/strong> enhancement along with strategies to <strong>increase the modal share of the Railways. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It will be a common platform for all future <strong>infrastructural, business and financial planning of the Railways.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0For successful implementation of the National Rail Plan, the Railways will be looking to engage with <strong>Private Sector, PSUs, State Governments and Original Equipment Manufacturers(OEM)\/Industries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0The NRP is meant to increase the <strong>share of railways in freight.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Objectives and Significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forecast growth of traffic in <strong>both freight<\/strong> and <strong>passenger year on year<\/strong> up to 2030 and on a decadal basis up to 2050.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formulate strategies<\/strong> based on both <strong>operational<\/strong> <strong>capacities<\/strong> and <strong>commercial policy<\/strong> initiatives to increase the modal share of the Railways in freight to <strong>45% by 2030 as a <\/strong>part of a national commitment to reduce <strong>carbon emission<\/strong> .\n<ul>\n<li>Net Zero Carbon emission by 2030.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reduce transit time<\/strong> of freight substantially by increasing <strong>average speed of freight trains<\/strong> from present 22Kmph to 50Kmph.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce <strong>overall cost of Rail transportation<\/strong> by nearly <strong>30%<\/strong> and pass on the benefits to the customers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Map the growth<\/strong> in demand on the Indian <strong>Railway route map<\/strong> and simulate the capacity behaviour of the network in future.\n<ul>\n<li>Three Dedicated Freight Corridors, namely East Coast, East-West &#038; North-South identified along with timelines. PETS survey already underway.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Several new High Speed Rail Corridors have also been identified. Survey on Delhi-Varanasi High Speed Rail already under way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Assess Locomotive requirement to meet twin objectives of <strong>100% electrification (Green Energy) by December 2023 <\/strong>and also the increasing traffic right up to 2030 and beyond up to 2050.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Significance :<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It will create a future-ready railways system and bring down the logistic cost for industry to enable Make in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News-Indian Railways has come up with a National Rail Plan to address the inadequacies of capacity constraints.
