Recently, Russia’s space agency <\/span><\/span><\/span>Roscosmos<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> has detached <\/span><\/span><\/span>Pirs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> from the <\/span><\/span><\/span>International Space Station<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (ISS) and will attach a larger module called <\/span><\/span><\/span>Nauka<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in its place.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • Nauka, meaning \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span>science<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201d in <\/span><\/span><\/span>Russian<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, is the <\/span><\/span><\/span>biggest space laboratory Russia<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> has launched to date.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It will primarily serve as the country\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span>main research facility <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>on the space station.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It was launched from the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Baikonur Cosmodrome<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in <\/span><\/span><\/span>Kazakhstan<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> on 21<\/span><\/span><\/span>st<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span> July using a <\/span><\/span><\/span>Proton<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> rocket.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • The Proton rocket is the most powerful in Russia\u2019s space inventory so far.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • It is <\/span><\/span><\/span>42 feet long<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and weighs <\/span><\/span><\/span>20 tonnes<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and was <\/span><\/span><\/span>supposed<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to be launched as early <\/span><\/span><\/span>as 2007<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • However, due to a range of technical issues, the launch kept getting postponed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • It is carrying an oxygen generator, a spare bed, another toilet and a robotic cargo crane built by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>European Space Agency<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (ESA).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • On the ISS, Nauka will be attached to the <\/span><\/span><\/span>critical Zvezda module<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

        • This module provides all of the space station\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span>life support systems<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and serves as the <\/span><\/span><\/span>structural and functional centre<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Russian Orbital Segment<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (ROS).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Pirs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

          • The <\/span><\/span><\/span>module that exited<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> the Zvezda was called<\/span><\/span><\/span> Pirs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, meaning \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span>pier<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201d in Russian.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
          • It is a considerably <\/span><\/span><\/span>smaller structure<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> that was<\/span><\/span><\/span> only used as a docking port<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> for Russian spacecraft and as a door for cosmonauts to go out on spacewalks.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
          • It was pulled away from the ISS using a <\/span><\/span><\/span>Progress MS-16\/77P cargo ship<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, which had remained docked to the module since February.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
          • Both Pirs and its cargo ship will<\/span><\/span><\/span> get burned up as they enter the Earth\u2019s atmosphere<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and are expected to fall harmlessly into the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Pacific Ocean<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Kandla Becomes First Green SEZ<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

Recently, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Kandla Special Economic Zone <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>(KASEZ) has been awarded the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Indian Green Building Council<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (IGBC) <\/span><\/span><\/span>Platinum Rating<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • It makes KASEZ the <\/span><\/span><\/span>First Green SEZ<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to achieve the <\/span><\/span><\/span>IGBC Green Cities Platinum Rating for Existing Cities<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • The efforts of the KASEZ team were noted especially the fact that this was accomplished in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bhuj region<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> where <\/span><\/span><\/span>water conservation<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>afforestation<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> are critical interventions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • This was a <\/span><\/span><\/span>major achievement <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>and is part of activities envisaged under the Green SEZs Mission as part of celebrations marking <\/span><\/span><\/span>India@75-Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

  • Scientific Name: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>Aquilaria malaccensis<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It is <\/span><\/span><\/span>native to North East India<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and the distribution ranges from the <\/span><\/span><\/span>foothills of the Himalayas<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to <\/span><\/span><\/span>Papua New Guinea<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

    • In the formation of oils, the wood of the tree must first become <\/span><\/span><\/span>infected with mold named Phialophora Parasitica<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Prior to the infection, the healthy wood was pale, odourless and relatively light in colour.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • However, as the<\/span><\/span><\/span> infection progresses<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, the tree starts producing a <\/span><\/span><\/span>dark aromatic resin<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> which is called <\/span><\/span><\/span>aloes<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in response to the attack of the external forces, which results in a very <\/span><\/span><\/span>dense, dark, resin-embedded wood<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

  • 12th Edition of Indo-Russia joint military Exercise INDRA 2021 will be held at Volgograd, Russia from 01 to 13 August 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • The INDRA series of exercises began in 2003 and the First joint Tri-Services Exercise was conducted in 2017.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
