  • India has scored 90.32% in<\/span><\/span><\/span> United Nation\u2019s Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific’s (UNESCAP)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> latest <\/span><\/span><\/span>Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The Survey hailed this as a remarkable jump from 78.49% in 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • The Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation is conducted<\/span><\/span><\/span> every two years<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> by UNESCAP.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • The 2021 Survey includes an<\/span><\/span><\/span> assessment of 58 trade facilitation measures<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> covered by the WTO\u2019s Trade Facilitation Agreement.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

        • The overall score of India has also been found to be greater than many OECD countries including France, UK, Canada, Norway, Finland etc. and the overall score is greater than the average score of the EU.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • This has had a direct impact in terms of the improvement in the UNESCAP rankings on digital and sustainable trade facilitation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
          • During the Covid19 pandemic, Customs formations have made all efforts to expedite Covid related imports such as Oxygen related equipment, life-saving medicines, vaccines etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

Recently, it has been suggested to deploy <\/span><\/span><\/span>HAM radio <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>(also known as <\/span><\/span><\/span>amateur radio<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/span> technology <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>in cyclone prone coastal areas in <\/span><\/span><\/span>Odisha<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>West Bengal<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • It is the use of<\/span><\/span><\/span> radio frequency spectrum<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> for <\/span><\/span><\/span>non-commercial two-way radio communications<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> including exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radiosport, contesting and emergency communication.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

      • Any citizen of India who is<\/span><\/span><\/span> above 12 years<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> of age can become a ham by qualifying in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Amateurs Station Operators<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (ASO) examination and obtaining a valid <\/span><\/span><\/span>Amateur wireless telegraph station license<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • The HAM operators employ <\/span><\/span><\/span>high frequency signals<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to connect with other operators and it <\/span><\/span><\/span>comes handy when mobile connectivity is down<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> as it can be <\/span><\/span><\/span>set up anywhere<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

Recently, casualties have been reported after clashes on the issue of compensation for damages to Maguri-Motapung wetland (or beel).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • The wetland derives its name from \u2018<\/span><\/span><\/span>Magur<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2019, <\/span><\/span><\/span>local<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>word for the catfish<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>Clarius batrachus<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span>, once found here in abundance. The <\/span><\/span><\/span>second half<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> of the name comes from a <\/span><\/span><\/span>village nearby<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>Beel<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> is the Assamese word for <\/span><\/span><\/span>wetland<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It is located <\/span><\/span><\/span>close to the Dibru Saikhowa National Park<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in Upper Assam\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span>Tinsukia<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> district.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • The Dibru river flows from east to west through the wetland. To the north-west of the wetland is a river, which was once called Dangori. It has been captured by the bigger river Lohit.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The wetland regime is a <\/span><\/span><\/span>critical part of the Dibru-Saikhowa Biosphere Reserve<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, an ecological corridor to Namdapha National Park and sustains the ecological integrity of the Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hotspot.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • This landscape is <\/span><\/span><\/span>mostly water <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>and comprises <\/span><\/span><\/span>wetlands<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>swamp forests<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>grasslands<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • It has a <\/span><\/span><\/span>grassland adjacent<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to it and the entire ecosystem (grassland and wetland) is very important as it is <\/span><\/span><\/span>home to at least 304 bird species<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, including a number of endemic ones like Black-breasted parrotbill and Marsh babbler.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • It is home to 37 species of mammals, 503 species of birds, 42 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibia, 104 species of fish and 105 species of butterflies, according to one 2016 survey.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

        • It has <\/span><\/span><\/span>over 110 bird species<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, of which eight are regarded as threatened by the IUCN, which include the Falcated duck, Ferruginous duck and Swamp Prinia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • The Lesser Adjutant, Baikal Teal, Swamp Francolin and Marsh Babbler are classified as less threatened.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • It was declared an <\/span><\/span><\/span>Important Bird and Biodiversity Area<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (IBA) in <\/span><\/span><\/span>1996<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bombay Natural History Society<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • In <\/span><\/span><\/span>May 2020<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, it was adversely <\/span><\/span><\/span>affected by a blowout and fire<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> at an Oil India Limited-owned gas well.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

India Among Top 10 Agricultural Produce Exporters In World: WTO<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • As per a report from WTO on the trends in world agricultural trade in the past 25 years, India broke into the list of top 10 agricultural produce exporters in 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • India commanded a 3.1 per cent share in the global agricultural produce exports.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Mexico commanded a share of 3.4 per cent, Brazil 7.8 per cent, China 5.4 per cent and the United States (US) 13.8 per cent.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • India is also the third-largest cotton exporter (7.6%), and the fourth-largest importer (10%) in 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • The US, which topped the list in 1995 (22.2%), was overtaken by the European Union in 2019 (16.1%).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • China climbed from the sixth spot in 1995 (4%) to fourth in 2019 (5.4%).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • The top 10 exporters accounted for more than 96% of exports in both 1995 and 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n
