Recently, scientists of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Indian Institute of Science<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (IISc) have experimentally shown the existence of <\/span><\/span><\/span>two species of Few Electron Bubbles<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (FEBs) in <\/span><\/span><\/span>superfluid helium<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> for the first time.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • FEBs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> are <\/span><\/span><\/span>nanometre-sized cavities<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in liquid helium containing just a <\/span><\/span><\/span>handful of free electrons<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • An electron injected into a superfluid helium creates a <\/span><\/span><\/span>Single Electron Bubble<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (SEB), a <\/span><\/span><\/span>cavity<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> that is free of helium atoms and contains <\/span><\/span><\/span>only the electron<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • There are also <\/span><\/span><\/span>Multiple Electron Bubbles<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (MEBs) that <\/span><\/span><\/span>contain thousands<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> of electrons.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The number, state and interactions between free electrons <\/span><\/span><\/span>dictate the physical and chemical properties<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> of materials.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Creation Methodology<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • The researchers first applied a voltage pulse to a tungsten tip on the surface of liquid helium and then generated a pressure wave on the charged surface using an ultrasonic transducer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • This allowed them to create <\/span><\/span><\/span>8EBs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>6EBs<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, two species of FEBs containing <\/span><\/span><\/span>eight<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>six<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>electrons respectively<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • These were found to be <\/span><\/span><\/span>stable for at least 15 milliseconds<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (quantum changes typically happen at much shorter time scales) which would enable researchers to trap and study them.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

        • FEBs can help scientists decipher phenomena like <\/span><\/span><\/span>turbulent flows in superfluids<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and viscous fluids, or the <\/span><\/span><\/span>flow of heat in superfluid helium<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

          • Just like how current flows without resistance in superconducting materials at very low temperatures, superfluid helium also conducts heat efficiently at very low temperatures.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

Recently, the Supreme Court (SC) has agreed to hear Bihar government\u2019s appeal against the acquittal by Patna High Court of 14 accused in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Senari massacre<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • On <\/span><\/span><\/span>18<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>th<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> March 1999<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>34 upper caste men<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> were forced out of their homes in Senari village of Jehanabad district allegedly by cadres of the<\/span><\/span><\/span> now<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span>defunct Maoist Communist Centre<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> (MCC) and <\/span><\/span><\/span>slaughtered<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> near the village temple.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n
