The International Asteroid Day is observed every year on June 30 as per the United Nations resolution.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

About<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • The day marks the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Tunguska impact<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> when an asteroid struck <\/span><\/span><\/span>over Siberia in 1908<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>. The impact was the biggest in recorded history.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It started in 2016 in order to make<\/span><\/span><\/span> people aware of the possible impact of Asteroids on Earth<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and its inhabitants.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The day was co-founded by Stephen Hawking, Grigorij Richters, Danica Remy, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, and Brian May.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The decision was made based on a proposal by the Association of Space Explorers, which was endorsed by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Asteroids<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    • Apart from the stars, planets and satellites, there are <\/span><\/span><\/span>numerous tiny bodies<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> that also move around the sun. These bodies are called asteroids. They are found between the orbits of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mars and Jupiter.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Asteroids are leftover from the formation of our solar system. Our solar system began about 4.6 billion years ago when a big cloud of gas and dust collapsed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Near-Earth Asteroids (NEA):<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> Which have orbits that pass close by the Earth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Trojans: Asteroids that share an orbit with a larger planet.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • NASA reports the presence of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Jupiter, Neptune and Mars trojans.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        NASA Asteroid Missions<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        • NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> landed on Eros, an asteroid near Earth, in 2001.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • Dawn spacecraft<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> travelled to the asteroid belt in 2011<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • In 2016, NASA launched the <\/span><\/span><\/span>OSIRIS-REx spacecraft<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to study an asteroid near Earth named Bennu.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>NASA in 2018 has announced that it had started the construction of DART, scheduled to be launched in 2021 with an aim to slam into the smaller asteroid of the Didymos system in 2022.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • Hera mission:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> It is the asteroid deflection mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) that scheduled to be launched in 2024\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS)<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • The data related to soil type, soil health, moisture, weather, and water table were aggregated and analysed to generate personalized insights.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The app brings together data relevant to the farmer and his farm, from various agencies and departments of the Government of India.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
