in India extends from June to mid-September. Indian monsoon has its origin, and its mechanisms are related to the following factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tibetan Plateau<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jet Streams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Somali Jet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of them has been discussed in detail in the following section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f246699f3969ee890b21a883a737809a\" style=\"color:#ff6a00\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Inter-Tropical_Convergence_Zone_ITCZ\"><\/span><strong>Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), also called the Equatorial convergence zone, is a low-pressure belt of converging trade winds and rising air that encircles the Earth near the Equator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ITCZ shifts north and south seasonally with the Sun. Over the Indian Ocean, it undergoes especially large seasonal shifts of 40\u00b0\u201345\u00b0 of latitude.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In June, the ITCZ moves polewards towards the Tropic of Cancer. However, it extends North over India (as far as 30\u00b0 N) northwards of the Himalayan Mountains.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is due to the intense heating of the land mass that takes place over India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This intense heating and the movement of the ITCZ create low pressure over northern India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meanwhile, the Indian Ocean heats up slowly, creating a zone of relatively high pressure (a subtropical anticyclone) off India\u2019s southern coastline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also, the winds blow from High to Low pressure. Air moves south-westerly from the sea to India in the north and northeast.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Here, it is deflected towards the right by the Coriolis force as the Earth spins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This low pressure draws in warm, unstable air from the Indian Ocean, laden with water vapour, bringing heavy rain to India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The uplift of this air over the foothills of the Himalayas and intense convection of the landmass further increase rainfall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In January, the ITCZ and the subtropical jet stream move southwards over the Equator and towards the Tropic of Capricorn.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the same time, the continental landmass at the centre of Asia around Mongolia and the Himalayas experiences intense cooling as the Northern Hemisphere points away from the Sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The intense cooling creates an area of high pressure in northern India, and the low pressure of the ITCZ is found to the south of India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The winds blow from the Northeast, away from the high-pressure cell over northern India, bringing dry conditions to most of the Indian subcontinent as they travel over land.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0ce374c8802911d80ca1a5c43b4e402f\" style=\"color:#ff6a00\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tibetan_Plateau\"><\/span><strong>Tibetan Plateau<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Tibetan Plateau affects the monsoon in two ways:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As a mechanical barrier, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a high-level heat source.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Tibetan Plateau, along with the Himalayas, is an enormous block of highland that acts as a formidable barrier and a heat source.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In summer, Tibet&#8217;s air is 2\u00b0C to 3\u00b0C warmer than the air over the adjoining regions, hence the heat source.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a mechanical barrier, it causes the advancement of the Subtropical westerly jet stream to the south of the Himalayas, bifurcating it into two parts\u2014one branch in the north of the Himalayas and the other in the south of it by November.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As a high-level heat source, the Tibet Plateau gives birth to a temporary jet called the Tropical Easterly Jet, which originates from the Tibet Plateau and travels over the Indian subcontinent and Indian Ocean.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2fa0ec93945ebde2e010af3c58a96823\" style=\"color:#ff6a00\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jet_Stream\"><\/span><strong>Jet Stream<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jet streams are narrow, strong wind bands that generally blow from west to east across the globe.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are found at heights ranging from 11 to 13 km above the surface of the Earth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Northern Hemisphere, the mean position of the jet stream ranges from 20\u00b0N to 50\u00b0N latitude, while the polar jet stream is found between 30\u00b0 and 70\u00b0N latitude.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These streams are driven by substantial temperature differences between adjacent air masses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are four major jet streams, which, despite being discontinuous at times, circulate the globe at class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apart from polar and subtropical jet streams, which are permanent jet streams, there are some temporary jet streams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temporary jet streams are narrow winds with speeds of more than 94 kph in the upper, middle, and sometimes lower troposphere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two important ones are the Somali Jet and the African Easterly Jet or Tropical Easterly Jet, which play an essential role in the formation and progression of Indian Monsoons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Somalian current changes its flow direction due to upwelling and downwelling on the eastern coast of Africa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In winter, the Somali Jet flows from north to south, travelling from the coast of Arabia to the East African coastline.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>However, with the onset of the summer monsoon, this current reverses direction, moving from south to north.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The progression of the southwest monsoon toward India is significantly facilitated by the Somali Jet, which crosses Kenya, Somalia, and the Sahel.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This jet reinforces the high-pressure system near Madagascar and enhances the intensity and pace of the southwest monsoons reaching India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color
