Elected and Nominated Members of both the Houses of Parliament.<\/strong><\/td><td>The Electoral College of the President consists of <strong>only Elected Members of both the Houses of Parliament.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>It <strong>does not include the Members of the State Legislative Assemblies.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>It <strong>includes the Elected Members of<\/strong> the <strong>State Legislative Assemblies<\/strong> and Elected Members of <strong>Legislative Assemblies of the Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The election of the Vice-President is held in accordance with the <strong>System of Proportional Representation<\/strong> by means of the <strong>Single Transferable Vote<\/strong> and the voting is by <strong>Secret Ballot.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This manner of election of the Vice President of India is the <strong>same as that of the President of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All doubts and disputes<\/strong> in connection with the election of the Vice-President are inquired into and decided by the <strong>Supreme Court <\/strong>whose decision is final.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The election of a person as Vice-President cannot be challenged on the ground that the Electoral College was incomplete (i.e. the existence of any vacancy among the Members of the Electoral College).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the election<\/strong> of a person as Vice-President is <strong>declared void<\/strong> by the Supreme Court, <strong>acts done by him\/her<\/strong> before the date of such declaration of the Supreme Court are <strong>not invalidated<\/strong> and <strong>continue to remain in force.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d1026940c290ee252b0eba9f18d597f2\" style=\"color:#015aa7\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Qualification_of_Vice_President_of_India\"><\/span><strong>Qualification of Vice President of India<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A person to be eligible for election as the Vice President of India should possess the <strong>following qualifications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He\/she should be a <strong>citizen of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she should have completed <strong>35 years of age.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she should be <strong>qualified for election as a member of the Rajya Sabha.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she should <strong>not hold any office of profit<\/strong> under the Union Government or any State Government or any Local Authority or any other Public Authority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Note: <\/strong>A sitting President or Vice-President of the Union, the Governor of any State, and a Minister for the Union or any State is not deemed to hold any office of profit and are qualified for being a candidate for Vice-President.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, a vice-presidential candidate has to fulfill the<strong> following conditions<\/strong> for his\/her election as the Vice President of India:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>His\/her <strong>nomination <\/strong>for election to the office of President must be <strong>subscribed by at least 20 electors as proposers and 20 electors as seconders.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she has to make a <strong>security deposit of \u20b915,000 <\/strong>in the Reserve Bank of India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d8057d7b30ddf71ddb2fabab66a5b2a7\" style=\"color:#015aa7\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oath_or_Affirmations_by_Vice_President_of_India\"><\/span><strong>Oath or Affirmations by Vice President of India<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Oath of Office to the Vice President is <strong>administered by the President or some person appointed on that behalf by him\/her.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In his\/her oath, the <strong>Vice-President swears:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To faithfully discharge the duties of his\/her office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eedca99c8d8e48bf6f356e138e3b1813\" style=\"color:#015aa7\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conditions_of_Office_of_Vice_President_of_India\"><\/span><strong>Conditions of Office of Vice President of India<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The conditions of the office of the Vice President of India as laid down by the <strong>Indian Constitution<\/strong> are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He\/she<strong> should not be a Member of<\/strong> either House of <strong>Parliament <\/strong>or a House of the <strong>State Legislature.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If any such person is elected as the Vice President, he\/she is deemed to have vacated the seat in that House on the date on which he\/she enters the office as Vice-President.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He\/she <strong>should not hold any other Office of Profit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c7c785e5ab55237f1413a47a05ef68b8\" style=\"color:#015aa7\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Term_of_Vice_President_of_India\"><\/span><strong>Term of Vice President of India<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Vice-President of India holds office for a <strong>term of five years<\/strong> from the date on which he\/she enters his\/her office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He can hold office beyond his term of 5 years until his\/her successor assumes charge of that office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He is <strong>eligible for re-election<\/strong> to that office for any number of terms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-560b7ab134c9ae3a6f1e1096053b0af2\" style=\"color:#015aa7\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Resignation_of_Vice_President_of_India\"><\/span><strong>Resignation of Vice President of India<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice-President of India can resign from his\/her office at any time by <strong>addressing the resignation letter to the President of India.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color
