As a result, around 15,000 women took to the streets and marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better wages, and voting rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1909<\/strong>: The Socialist Party of America organized the first National Woman&#8217;s Day (NWD) across the United States on February 28, 1909. From 1909 upto 1913, women in the US continued to celebrate NWD on the last Sunday of February.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1910<\/strong>: The Second International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen in 1910. Here, a German socialist and women\u2019s rights activist, Clara Zetkin, proposed the idea of establishing an International Women\u2019s Day. This proposal was accepted unanimously. However, no specific date was decided upon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1911<\/strong>: In accordance with the decision taken at the Copenhagen Conference, IWD was celebrated for the first time on 19 March 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
