contamination of the physical and biological components of the environment to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 the environment, causes environmental pollution is called a <strong>pollutant.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In other words, a pollutant is any substance that contaminates air, water, soil, etc, and damages their quality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash, or created by human activity, such as trash or factory runoff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 disposal, pollutants are of the following two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Non-Biodegradable_Pollutants\"><\/span><strong>Non-Biodegradable Pollutants<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pollutants that cannot be broken down into simpler, harmless substances in nature are called <strong>non-biodegradable pollutants.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For example, DDT, plastics, polythene, insecticides, pesticides, mercury, lead, arsenic, aluminium cans, synthetic fibres, glass objects, iron products, silver foils, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Through bioaccumulation and biomagnification, these pollutants may appear in greater concentration as we move along the higher tropics of the food chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Biodegradable_Pollutants\"><\/span><strong>Biodegradable Pollutants<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Biodegradable Pollutants<\/strong> can be broken down into simpler, harmless substances in nature over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For example, Domestic wastes, urine, faecal matter, sewage, agriculture residues, paper, wood, cloth, cattle dung, animal bones, leather, wool, vegetable stuff or plants etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a8e852dfb8200ad351e51079709ccfd9\" style=\"color:#ff6a00\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" after being released into the environment, the pollutants are categorised into the following two types:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Primary_Pollutants\"><\/span><strong>Primary Pollutants<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Primary Pollutants<\/strong> are those emitted directly from the source and persist in the environment in the form in which they were added.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Examples:<\/strong> ash, smoke, fumes, dust, nitric oxide, sulphur dioxide, hydrocarbons, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Secondary_Pollutants\"><\/span><strong>Secondary Pollutants<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Secondary Pollutants<\/strong> are formed from primary pollutants by chemical interaction with some constituents present in the atmosphere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples are Sulphur trioxide, nitrogen dioxide, aldehydes, ketones, ozone, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading releases pollutants into the air, water, and soil, causing environmental pollution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rapid pace of urbanisation also increases waste generation and resource consumption, exacerbating pollution and causing severe effect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industries also generate hazardous wastes in many forms, including liquids, solids, gases, and sludge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rapid Urbanization<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The increased pace of urbanisation in recent times has led to worsening pollution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It creates issues such as deforestation and habitat loss, increased emissions and waste generation, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Forest Fires<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The frequency of forest fires or wildfires has increased because of human actions, such as land clearing, encroachment, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These wildfires are a huge source of pollution, adding large amounts of gaseous and other pollutants to the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improper Agricultural Practices<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the IPCC report, the agriculture sector produces at least 23 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions (second only to the energy
